The
Kathmandu Cafe, with its outdoor garden terrace, is located in the
heart of Woodstock, New York on the banks of the millstream.
Between 1993 and 1997, the Café operated as a Tibetan restaurant
and performance space which provided the extended Woodstock
community with over 300 events, including: Dharma talks by eminent
Lamas and Tibetan Buddhist scholars (Dharma
Tapes);
classical Indian music nights (Live
in Woodstock CD);
musical events ranging from Jules Shear to Turkish drums &
belly dancing to the best of Woodstock’s singer/songwriter’s,
from rock & roll to poetry readings.
Since 1997, the Café recreates itself for occasional outdoor
events under the stars on warm summer evenings. During the past
three summers Professor Robert Thurman spoke on "The Blade
Wheel of Mind Reform"; John Reynolds on "Space,
Awareness and Energy"; and Keith Dowman on "Dzogchen the
Heart of the Matter".
Bhagavan
Das led
Kirtan; Fantuzzi sang Heart songs; Mary Thunder and Tlakaelel
spoke about the New Millennium; Janine Pommy Vega & Andy
Clausen delivered their Poetry; Ira
Cohen read his poetry and showed his award winning film
"Kings
with Straw Mats";
and Stephen
Gaskin warned of the demise of the two party system.
In conjunction with the Woodstock Poetry Festival, on Aug. 23,
2001,
William Irwin Thompson gave a talk entitled "The Mystic Poets
- Voices at the edge of History" which will soon be released
as a video.
